Kyoko Saegusa Sings The Songs of Jerome Kern, Wednesday, March 28th at Don’t Tell Mama

Kyoko Saegusa sings I’m Old Fashioned: The Songs of Jerome Kern on March 28th at 7PM at Don’t Tell Mama. Accompanying Saegusa on piano is Russ Kassoff, with Ron McClure on bass and Tim Horner on drums. Saegusa, a native of Japan, has been a resident of the United States for over 30 years. She’s an enthusiastic lover of the Great American Songbook, with a preference for singing and recording the works of the masters such as Cole Porter and others. Her set list for this Kern outing will include “The Song Is You,” “Yesterdays,” “The Folks Who Live On The Hill,” “In Love,In Vain,” “The Way You look Tonight” and much more.

Saegusa is passionate about music, which, she says, “has always been with me; I could not live my life without it.” She’d sung for her own pleasure for many years before turning to performing about seven years ago. Saegusa is partial to jazz interpretation, which allows her to “have fun and play with the lyric.”  Her style is uniquely he own, performing American standards through the lens of her Japanese sensibilities and experiences.
