Karen Oberlin in “Confound Me: Songs in Search of Something,” Thursday, May 17, at Birdland

Multi-award winning singer Karen Oberlin, debuts her new show, Confound Me: Songs in Search of Something, at Birdland on Thursday, May 17th at 6 PM, with Jon Weber on piano, Sean Smith on bass and Daniel Glass on drums. Oberlin won the Mabel Mercer Foundation’s Donald F. Smith Award and also has MAC, Bistro, Broadway World and NY Nightlife Awards to her credit. In Confound Me: Songs in Search of Something, the singer contemplates joy, purpose, approval, belonging and, of course, love. She says, “We’re all yearning for something, striving for something, even though that something may change over the course of our lives. But what do we want? How do we choose? From Dorothy Fields to Simon and Garfunkel and Elvis Costello to Rosnes and Hajdu, Oberlin seeks out that often elusive “something” in song. Arrangements for the set are by Tedd Firth, Jon Weber and Oberlin.
