By Maryann Lopinto***Birdland presented the return of Karen Mason for her legendary Christmas show Christmas! Christmas! Christmas! It was a great, amazing performance, and a classic. Mason has been doing this annual show as far back as her days in Chicago (the city, not the musical!). Of course pianist-music director Christopher Denny was at the piano. The two have been working together for 30 years! Tom Hubbard was on the bass, and another long-time collaborator, Barry Kleinbort, directed. Mason sang old and new holiday songs and introduced a brand new Christmas song written by her husband, Paul Ronick—”Merry Yuletide Cheer.” Christmas! Christmas! Christmas! was really a night to remember.
