Humorist and Songwriter John Forster Appears at Don’t Tell Mama on Sunday, April 16 and Mondays, April 24 and May 1

Humorist and songwriter John Forster brings his unique brand of musical mischief to Don’t Tell Mama with Too Clever by 20%—John Forster in Concert, for three nights: Sunday, April 16 and Mondays April 24 and May 1, all at 7 PM. The show is the artist’s return to the NY stage and a celebration of his new album, Location, Location, Location.

The show will feature fan favorites such as “Entering Marion,” “Way Down Deep (You’re Shallow)” and the award-winning “Tone Deaf,” as well as lots of new material. Forster will be joined by several friends and celebrity guests including Grammy award-winning songwriter Julie Gold (“From A Distance”) on April 16th, cabaret legend Sidney Myer on April 24th and humorist and folk icon Christine Lavin on May 1st.

Forster is the 2023 MAC Award winner for Comedy/Novelty Song. He is also a 2022 MAC Dottie Burman Songwriting Award winner. Often called “the Tom Lehrer of his generation”, Forster has been described as having “the world view of George Carlin and the musical-parody chops of Frank Zappa in his glory days.” The Boston Globe said, “If Joni Mitchell and Daffy Duck had a love child, he’d probably write songs just like John Forster. His song satires range from sheer slapstick to Jon Stewart-acute.”

A four-time Grammy nominee in the Children’s field, Firster has written and produced a dozen albums with Tom Chapin, (“Family Tree”, “This Pretty Planet,” “Billy the Squid”), as well as platinum videos and albums for the Olsen Twins (“Brother for Sale”, “Our First Video”). His songs have been featured on NPR’s “Morning Edition,” “Car Talk,” the NASA Shuttle (!) and the 2022 Gucci Runway Show. Forster’s comedy song classic “Entering Marion,” the title track of his Indie Award-winning debut album, is featured in Dr. Demento’s “50 Greatest Novelty Songs of All Time.”
