Don’t Tell Mama will present Diary of a Pizza Bagel’s Daughter, starring Jenn Bornstein, on Saturday, June 29 at 7:00 PM. Musical direction is by Aidan Davis with guitar and backup vocals by Lindsay Burstedt. Directed by Lennie Watts
What is a pizza bagel, you may ask? In Jersey-speak, a pizza bagel is someone who has 1 parent of Italian ancestry and 1 parent of Jewish ancestry (it’s also a very tasty snack!). Growing up in such a household where Italian and Yiddish are spoken interchangeably can often be… confusing. At least that was Bornstein’s’s experience. With songs by Peggy Lee, Janet Jackson, Tori Amos, Annie Lennox, Alan Menken, Jim Croce, Johnny Mercer, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins and more, the show is a tribute to a great father and a colorful upbringing.
Bornstein started her career behind the scenes as assistant to producers Angelo Del Rossi and Roy Miller on Paper Mill Playhouse’s Children of Eden with Stephanie Mills, Darius de Haas and Kelli Rabke. Over the years, she has produced and directed plays and cabarets throughout the New York-New Jersey area. In 2015 she moved to NYC and began performing again playing Sister Mary Roberts in Sister Act at Theater 80 St Marks and Donna in Mamma Mia at the 14th Street Y. Since 2022 she has been performing with Singnasium and is a new member of the Singnasium board.
