Daryl Glenn and Nellie McKay Sing the Music of Robert Altman’s “Popeye,” April 11th at Feinstein’s/54 Below

Daryl Glenn and Nellie McKay sing the music of Robert Altman’s 1980 film Popeye, with a score by singer/songwriter Harry Nilsson, at Feinstein’s/54 Below on April 11 at 7 PM. The show features guest stars Jay Rogers and Lennie Watts and is music directed by Karen Dryer and Ben McNaboe.

Daryl Glenn has performed in cabaret and internationally in musical theatre. Glenn (with co­star Jo Lynn Burks) is a “Triple Crown” winner (MAC, Bistro and Nightlife awards) for his tribute to Robert Altman’s 1975 film Nashville. (It was not only Glenn’s New York cabaret debut,  but the first time all three awards were presented for a single show.) Glenn also presented Daryl Sings Steve: ­Songs by Sondheim on the occasion of Stephen Sondheim’s 80th birthday.

Nellie McKay has released six full-length albums, including “Pretty Little Head,” “Obligatory Villagers” and “Normal as Blueberry Pie.” She won a Theatre World Award for her portrayal of Polly Peachum in the Broadway production of The Threepenny Opera and has performed onscreen in the films PS I Love You and Downtown Express. McKay also wrote original music for Rob Reiner’s film, Rumor Has It, and contributed to the Emmy-winning documentary, Gasland.

Daryl Glenn & Nellie McKay sing Robert Altman’s Popeye plays Feinstein’s/54 Below (254 West 54th Street) Wednesday, April 11 at 7 PM.  There is a $25-$35 cover charge and $25 food and beverage minimum.
