Note the Rescheduled Date: Broadway/TV star Carole Demas and fellow Broadway and TV star Eric Michael Gillett are together at last on the Skylight Run stage with Joyful Spirits, on Friday, December 17 at 7:30 PM. The Live and On Demand show from Westchester, New York, features music director Ian Herman at the piano. Sound engineer Stuart J. Allyn steers the audio and video.
The duo will perform a variety of their favorite songs, all in the joyful holiday spirit. Gillett and Demas have appeared in many of the same concerts and fundraisers but have never sung together. Through their long careers they have crossed paths and shared stages with many of the same people, but at different times. Among the numbers to be sung are “Somewhere in Time,” “They Were You” and holiday favorites, making for an evening of warm, engaging songs and stories.
Gillett is an award-winning director and performer. As a director and writer, he conceived and directed the 2010/11 Big Apple Circus for Lincoln Center, as well as the revues Dirty Little Songs and Thirty-Whatever. For Carnegie Mellon, he directed A Little Night Music. His work has appeared in the Montreal Fringe Festival, the Samuel French Short Play Festival and at SoHo Playhouse, among man other credits. He is the recipient of 6 Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs (MAC) Awards (Outstanding Director 3x, Major Male Artist, Special Production, Male Vocalist), as well as the Mabel Mercer Foundation’s Dick Gallagher Award.
Demas is the originator of the role of “Sandy” in Broadway’s original Grease, and of the title character in The Baker’s Wife. Her 60-year career has included thousands of leading role performances on Broadway, Off-Broadway and in regional theater. On TV, Demas starred for 12 years with lifelong friend, Paula Janis, in the successful regional show for children, “The Magic Garden.” Concerts and cabarets have been performed in many major NYC venues and throughout her long career, she has also been featured in hundreds of commercials.
Ian Herman’s career spans decades in the theater community including Broadway shows, Off-Broadway shows, concerts and cabarets. He is a Backstage Bistro Award winner for Best Music Director. Herman has worked artists such as Jane Olivor, Donna McKechnie, Sharon McNight, Anita Morris, Judy Kaye, Tom Andersen, Karen Mason, Sharon McNight, Marilyn Sokol, Angela LaGreca, Joy Behar and many more in nightclubs in New York and around the country.
