After five years of teaching, running a theatre department, singing in a big band and fighting cancer, singer/actor Bruce Clough returns to Don’t Tell Mama with Silver Linings on Sunday, July 15th at 3:30 PM. Cloughwill celebrate the times in his life when “something awesome came from something awful.” Featuring musical director Jeff Dershin on piano and backup vocalists Barbara Gurskey and Stephen Belfatti, the singer will seek to inspire through classic Broadway show tunes, popular film songs and eclectic pop music from the 1960s to the 2000s. The compositions include works by Irving Berlin, Jerry Herman, Stevie Wonder, Randy Newman, Jonathan Larson, Van Morrison, Weird Al Yankovic and more.
For eight months during 2016, Clough suffered a persistent sore throat. He visited many doctors and received many probes and prods, until he finally demanded a biopsy. On January 20, 2017, he was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma on his left tonsil. After 33 radiation and seven chemotherapy treatments, he started his post-treatment recovery last May. Almost a year after the original diagnosis, Clough launched his comeback cabaret show, Silver Linings at the Rrazz Room in New Hope, PA.
Clough has had careers as a professional actor, band singer, director, teacher, editor and acting coach. He’s performed over 100 roles on stage, including a number of Shakespeare’s hits, performing with actors such as Sir Anthony Hopkins, F. Murray Abraham, Mike Nichols and James Gandolfini, and performing at such venues as The Public Theatre, The Dallas Theatre Center and The Actors Theater in Louisville. From 2006-2013, Clough created a series of cabaret show,s including B-B-B-Bad and Two B-B-B-Bad!, Sweet Soul Music, Fillet of Soul, Big Bad Bruce and Beauty and the Bruce. He states that he owes an enormous debt as a teacher, performer and person to his mentor, Uta Hagen.
