Cabaret and Broadway’s Carole Demas (she was the original Sandy in Grease), who was recently honored on a “Richard Skipper Celebrates” live-stream, will be a featured part of The Long Island Music Hall of Fame’s upcoming TV special, “Supporting Health Care Heroes.” The 90-minute show scheduled to air on News 12 Plus (Optimum Ch. 61) and FiOS (Ch. 530) on May 31 at 8 pm. News 12 features reporter Elisa DiStefano will host the special honoring of Long Island’s COVID-19 front-line workers.
Demas and Paula Janis, who created the popular TV show, “The Magic Garden,” which has become a “cult favorite,” still make personal appearances, which are well-attended by adults who were once child fans of the duo, as well as their children and an ongoing stream of dedicated new fans. Demas and Janis were inducted into The Long Island Music Hall of Fame about a decade ago.
Also appearing and performing on the special are other inductees, including pop star Debbie Gibson, rappers Darryl “DMC” McDaniels of Run-DMC, Whodini and EPMD, as well as Joan Jett, Pat Benatar (with Neil Giraldo), Blue Öyster Cult, Taking Back Sunday, Kurtis Blow, Barnaby Bye, Gary U.S. Bonds, Elliott Murphy and Kenny Vance, plus members of the Stray Cats, Dream Theater, Vanilla Fudge and The Tokens. Long Island artists added to the show are Alexa Ray Joel, Michael DelGuidice (Billy Joel Band, Big Shot), Lisa Lisa and pianist Jeffrey Biegel.
Donations will be accepted for the United Way’s United Together for Health Care Heroes fund via its website at unitedwayli.org/healthcareheroes and will be used to help deliver food to health care workers on site.
