Mexican singer and actress Florencia Cuenca brings her Broadway en Spanglish to Joe’s Pub at 7 PM on Monday, October 3. The project also features Mariachi Real de México de Ramon Ponce and new arrangements by Jamie Lozano.
Together these artists take musical theater’s most iconic tunes and create fresh interpretations. Cuenca is actively working to create opportunities for Mexican and Latin immigrants to be on stage, experimenting with how her mixed musical upbringing could be reimagined in favorite musical theatre songs. Cuenca plays with not only the mezcla of musical traditions but how an immigrant woman learning a second language sounds when she speaks.
