Bending Towards The Light, A Jazz Nativity, Plays at St. Paul & St. Andrew’s Church on Monday, December 18

Bending Towards The Light, A Jazz Nativity, the Christmas story told through the medium of jazz, plays on Monday, December 18 at 8:00 PM at the church of  St. Paul & St. Andrew on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The show was written by Anne Phillips, is directed by Beth Ann Kennedy and produced by Kindred Spirits & Aunahil.

The original music, written by Phillips, Bob Kindred and Dave and Iola Brubeck, is combined with well-known carols, plus a nine-piece band and live choir.

This year the three kings are Bobby Sanabria, Chris Brubeck, and tap dancer Maurice Chestnut, along with Lucy Wyans as Mary. Christmas carols include “Angels We Have Heard on High” and “The First Noel,” among others, which carries the narrative through in an order that tell the story. The biblical segments are sung by a soprano and a vocal group. When the three kings arrive, they come marching down the aisle and they present the gift of their talent.
