Disney stage alumni will give four performances at the New Amsterdam Theater, two months before the curtains rise on The Lion King and Aladdin in New York. Live at the New Am plays from from July 22-24 at 7:30 PM and a 2 PM matinee on July 25, benefiting The Actors Fund.
Michael James Scott (Aladdin) will be joined by Ashley Brown, the original Mary Poppins on Broadway; Kissy Simmons, who has played Nala in The Lion King on Broadway; and Josh Strickland, Disney’s original Tarzan on Broadway, performing numbers from The Lion King, Frozen, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and others.
For the past decade, Disney has staged retrospective concerts of its Broadway hits around the world, from Japan to Orlando, Florida. Scott has performed in several of the concerts, explaining, “It’s like 11 o’clock number after 11 o’clock number.”
Covid-19 protocols for Live at the New Am include audience members will need to show proof of being fully vaccinated; attendees under 12 are exempt but must be with a vaccinated adult. Assisted listening devices and accessible seating will be available for all performances. The matinee on Sunday, July 25 will feature ASL interpretation; live closed captioning will be available via personal devices.
