By Scott Barbarino***I had to read this bit of news twice to wrap my brain around it. First I shook my head in disbelief—but that has now become outrage. Donald Trump plans to hold an evening rally at Madison Square Garden scheduled for Sunday, October 27. The rally will kick off an “arena tour” as a final push before the November 5 election.
On February 20, 1939, a Nazi rally took place at Madison Square Garden, organized by the German American Bund. More than 20,000 people attended. The Bund billed the event, which took place two days before George Washington’s Birthday, as a pro-“Americanism” rally; the stage at the event featured a huge Washington portrait with swastikas on each side. Approximately 100,000 anti-Nazi counter-protesters gathered outside, attempting to break through lines of police officers guarding the rally.
“If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck” This event is more of a decoy duck set up to shock people and distract us from conversations about policy and our country’s future. I posted this on my Facebook page with these photos: “Let’s do a special meet-and-greet outside Madison Square Garden for these Mooks when they descend on NYC on Oct. 27th, 2024 … same group just 85 years later.” I will be organizing a group to be outside Madison Square Garden and if you’re interested in joining me, please DM me through my Facebook page.
Upon finding out that this event was confirmed, I realized that Stevie Wonder was appearing at The Garden last night, October 10, and called his agents at CAA to make sure that he would be aware of this fast growing news. On the night of the 27th, Kany García, will be performing at The Theater at MSG while Trump is in the arena.
I completely believe that freedom of speech is part of the foundation of our democracy, but hate speech does not qualify. James Dolan is the executive chairman and CEO of Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp. (MSG Entertainment). You can contact MSG Guest Relations by email at guestrelations@msg.com or by phone at (212) 465-6225. Call them and let them know your thoughts on this. The Dolan family , FYI, also operates The Beacon Theater and Radio City Music Hall.
As a further call-to-action, you might also contact performers who have dates in any of these venues and let them know that you are boycotting Dolan-owned businesses. Maybe the Dolans can rectify this terrible mistake and cancel the event and return The Mook’s deposit to him … that’s assuming he made one.
Onward and Upward!
