Vocalist Jane Monheit Begins Her Five-Day Residency at Smoke on Wednesday, July 16

Vocalist Jane Monheit will perform in residency at Smoke Jazz Club from Wednesday, July 16 through Sunday, July 20, with shows at 7 PM, PM and 10:30 PM on Friday and Saturday. Michael Kanan is at the piano, with bassist Neal Miner and drummer Rick Montalbano.

Monheit is known for her passion for the Great American Songbook; she’s been at the forefront of jazz singing since she emerged over 20 years ago, and during the ensuing years has collaborated with some of the greatest musicians, arrangers, and producers in jazz, including Tommy Flanagan, Ron Carter, Kenny Barron, Terence Blanchard, John Pizzarelli, Christian McBride and many more.

During her childhood Monheit studied woodwinds and piano, spent a decade performing in award winning choirs, and participated in community theater on Long Island. Throughout all of this, her focus remained on jazz, especially interpretation of the Songbook. At the age of 20, during her senior year at the Manhattan School Of Music, Monheit placed second in the Thelonious Monk Competition, now known as the Hancock Competition. This led to a career trajectory towards jazz stardom.

Tickets range from $25 to $65. All 7 PM and 9 PM shows are Dinner Shows. For further details and to reserve, click here
