The York Theatre Company will start its 2022-2023 mainstage season with a reprise of Cheek to Cheek: Irving Berlin in Hollywood, the song-and-dance celebration featuring the music and lyrics of Irving Berlin, beginning on Tuesday, September 13. The limited engagement will continue through Sunday, October 16 at the Off-Broadway Theatre at St. Jean’s, The York’s temporary home.
The show, which played in 2021 at The York, was conceived, directed, and choreographed by Four-time Tony nominee Randy Skinner, with a book by Barry Kleinbort and music direction and additional orchestrations by David Hancock Turner. The current cast includes Jeremy Benton (42nd Street), Darien Crago (Holiday Inn), Kaitlyn Davidson (Cinderella), Danny Gardner (Flying Over Sunset), and Melinda Porto.
The prolific songwriter Irving Berlin wrote some of the most popular tunes of the American Songbook for Hollywood films. Cheek to Cheek: Irving Berlin in Hollywood not only showcases the songs from such classic films as Top Hat, Alexander’s Ragtime Band, Holiday Inn, Easter Parade and White Christmas, but also tells the stories about the man who understood the impact dance had on the public, and whose melodies, rhythms, and lyrics reflected his love of that art form.
