Theater is still shuttered, but theater fans can listen to a brand new tune featuring a host of Broadway notables and celebrities in a video, The Theatre Will Survive—A Benefit for The Actors Fund, to live-stream on August 31 at 7 PM ET. The song is “The Theatre Will Survive” by composer Ned Paul Ginsburg (who also orchestrated) and lyricist Michael Colby. Many of the performers and creatives will attend for a Q & A chat with the audience as part of the show, which can be seen on Metropolitan Zoom.
With the help of videographer Michael Yeshion, here are the performers participating in the presentation: Christine Andreas, Sarah Uriarte Berry, Christina Bianco, Chuck Cooper, Robert Cuccioli, Marc De la Cruz, George Dvorsky, Anita Gillette, Jason Graae, Ann Harada, Leah Hocking, Richard Jay-Alexander, Judy Kaye, Jeff Keller, Eddie Korbich, Michael McCormick, N’Kenge, Barry Pearl, Gabriella Pizzolo, Stephanie Pope, Faith Prince, Courtney Reed, T. Oliver Reid, Steve Rosen, Jennifer Sanchez, Analise Scarpaci, Tony Sheldon, Ryan Silverman and Paulo Szot.
Nothing in recent times has challenged the existence of live theatre like COVID-19. Theatre folks have been sidelined for months now and it’s frequently The Actors Fund that comes to the rescue in times of trouble. “In order for them to make their magic, they need all of us on board,” says Sandi Durell, owner and force behind TheaterPizzazz.com, who’s hosting the show. ” And it was lyricist Michael Colby who approached composer/orchestrator Ned Paul Ginsburg with a song that has morphed into ‘The Theatre Will Survive.’ When some of the brightest and best voices on Broadway and Off were approached to record, they all said ‘yes’ to participating in making this a reality.”
“The theatre community is a remarkable source of support and hope, even at times like the current pandemic, says Michael Colby. “Members of the community have banded together to celebrate the unique phoenix that is live theatre. Our video is to benefit the Actors Fund, which is cushioning the difficulties till we reach the other side of the tunnel to Broadway and stages around the world. You are invited to join in our celebration and help reinforce our love and certainty of theater’s future.”
