The latest edition of the New York Big City Songbook series, hosted by Deborah Grace Winer, plays on Sunday, August 11 at 7:00 PM at Birdland Theater. Featured are Karen Ziemba, LaTanya Hall, Nicolas King, plus a special appearance by 5-time Grammy nominee Karrin Allyson.
The series is a musical guidebook through New York City, from Billy Joel to Rodgers & Hart and Mary Chapin Carpenter, who, like so many other songwriters, have been compelled to write about life in Gotham. The energy and life of this city called New York supply an endless supply of stories, and the songs that make up the NYC songbook go as far back (almost) as the city itself, from tunes such as “Sidewalks of New York” to “Take the A Train” to “New York State of Mind” and Alicia Keys’ “New York.”
