The Drilling Company’s production of Twelfth Night plays at Bryant Park, Friday, July 27th through Sunday, July 29th at 7 PM. The event is free. Twelfth Night isthe second production of this summer’s Bryant Park Shakespeare series, twins Sebastian and Viola stumble upon the flamboyant, technicolor world of Illyria, visually inspired by the surreal wonderlands of The Wizard of Oz, Yellow Submarine, Andy Warhol, and the works of Doctor Seuss — an exuberant live-action reimagining.
Building on last summer’s production, Twelfth Night is directed by Hamilton Clancy (Orange Is the New Black, Billions, Mindhunter) and Brandi Varnell. The cast features Natalie Smith, who will be appearing in a new Netflix series this fall, as well as new cast members Lorenzo Landini and Remy Souchet (Midsummer Nights Dream). The cast welcomes back Kathleen Simmonds, Lukas Raphael, Rachel A. Collins, Emmanuel Elpenord, Jack Sochet, Brandon Reilly, Arif Silverman, and Haley Simmonds.
The third and final installment of the Bryant Park Shakespeare series will be Macbeth (Fridays and Saturdays, August 24 through September 8), a Gangs of New York-styled Macbeth, set in the mid-1800s when early settlers fought for turf in the infamous Five Points area. Macbeth will feature Brad Frost and Ivory Aquino (When We Rise) in the leading roles; the remainder of the cast will be announced soon.
Bryant Park is situated behind the New York Public Library in midtown Manhattan, between 40th and 42nd Streets & Fifth and Sixth Avenues. Take the B, D, F, or M train to 42nd Street/Bryant Park; or, take the 7 train to 5th Avenue.
