The Creator Collective Vocal Octet Debuts at The Duplex on Tuesday, April 17

A new group on the block, The Creator Collective, founded just this year by vocalists Mathew Billman, Richard Baskin and Alexis Myles, is making its NYC debut at The Duplex this Tuesday, April 17 at 9:30 PM with Leaving the Nest. The group will be accompanied by a full-band as it sings original work and established pieces. Featured performers in the show are Billman, Baskin (who is also the music director), Myles (social media and organizing maven), Hanna Berggren, Darren Cementina, Cameron Amandus Jones, Katelyn Langwith and Victoria Lopez.

The group formed the collective to provide a space and a platform for promising new artists (of all kinds) to bring their ideas to life in a mutually supportive, dedicated, hard-working environment. Tuesday’s concert is designed, in part, to showcase the group to the larger community of artists and performers, as well as potential audiences. Says Myles, ‘We’ve reached the point of having learned and grown enough to leave the nest and start our own careers but we can’t do it alone, hence why CC was born.”

Friends and champions in the vocal community, including Voices in Flow and the Down Town Glee Club, have been proactive in supporting the Creator Collective and its debut evening. Michael Tedesco, President of the Down Town Glee Club, has characterized the group as a “fine group of musicians whose passion to create wonderful music is like no other.” Current projects include the Creator Collective Songwriting Project, in which emerging artists are paired to collaboratively write and produce new original music, and the associated upcoming YouTube series “81st Street Sessions.”

Billman is also the co-founder and onetime music director of the improvisational a cappella group Voices in Flow. He currently leads workshops teaching the group’s improvisational music making techniques. Myles is a performing artist specializing as a vocalist; she’s been trained for over 15 years classically and specializes in Jazz. Baskin is a keyboard artist, singer and composer who continues to work on his original compositions.
