As part of the Bronx Rising! The South Bronx Experience series, writer and host Randy Cohen brings his Person Place Thing to The Bronx Music Hall for a for a special live taping of multi-Grammy-nominated Latin jazz icon Bobby Sanabria and his band, Ascensión on Saturday, June 7 at 8 PM. Through stories and music, Sanabria shares the person, place, and thing that shaped his journey as percussionist and band leader—from the heart of the South Bronx to the global stage.
Cohen, the host of Person Place Thing, a public radio program, began his career writing humor pieces, essays and stories for newspapers and magazines (The New Yorker, Harpers, the Atlantic, Young Love Comics). His first television work was writing for “Late Night with David Letterman,” for which he won three Emmy awards. His fourth Emmy was for his work on Michael Moore’s TV Nation. He received a fifth Emmy as a result of a clerical error, and he kept it. For twelve years he wrote “The Ethicist,” a weekly column for the The New York Times Magazine.
