New musical, The Big Gay Jamboree is hosting Marla’s Crisis, a one-night-only takeover of the famed piano bar, Marie’s Crisis, on Monday, November 18 from 7 to 10 PM. Off-Broadway queen, and co-creator and star of The Big Gay Jamboree, Marla Mindelle, hosts an evening of belting showtunes, cathartic collective screaming, and ticket and prize giveaways, with her “Department of Gay Efficiency,” a.k.a. her castmates.
Directed and choreographed by Connor Gallagher, with a book by Mindelle and Jonathan Parks-Ramage, and music and lyrics by Mindelle and Philip Drennen, The Big Gay Jamboree, which was recently extended through March 13, centers on Stacey (Mindelle), who after blacking out from 18 Jägerbombs, wakes up hungover in the most terrifying place of all: an Off-Broadway musical. With no memory of how she got there, Stacey is forced to put her BFA in theater to use, belt her face off, and figure out how the hell she’s gonna escape this 1940’s golden age musical…while a live audience watches.
