A new musical comedy, The Big Gay Jamboree, the newest creation from Marla Mindelle, creator of the hit Off-Broadway spoof musical, Titanique, begins previews at the Orpheum Theatre on Saturday, September 14, with an opening night set for Tuesday, October 1.
The cast, in addition to Mindelle, includes Alex Moffat (Keith), Paris Nix (Clarence), Constantine Rousouli (Bert), Natalie Walker (Flora), with Jaden Dominique, Brad Greer, Jeremiah Ginn, Amanda Lee, Jillian Mueller, Olivia Puckett, Melvin Tunstall, Clyde Voce, Cortney Wolfson, and John Yi. The Big Gay Jamboree is directed and choreographed by Connor Gallagher, with a book by Mindelle and Jonathan Parks-Ramage, and music and lyrics by Mindelle and Philip Drennen.
Pushing the envelope–and the gay agenda–the musical opens with Stacey, who wakes up after a night of blackout-heavy drinking, finds herself trapped in an Off-Broadway Golden Age musical. Forced to put her musical theatre degree in action, Stacey has to figure out how to escape a world where everybody keeps bursting into song and dance, and where gay still just means happy. Maybe it’s a dream. But if Stacey’s truly trapped inside a Golden Age musical, there’s only one way out: sing out! Or find the stage door. Whatever gets the most applause.
