Drummer, Grammy winner and NEA Jazz Master Terri Lyne Carrington pays homage to Max Roach in Freedom Now Suite concert series at Smoke Jazz Club from Wednesday-Sunday, March 5-9 at  7:00 PM, 9:00 PM and additional 10:30 PM on Friday and Saturday. In addition to Carrington, personell are Milena Casado (trumpet), Morgan Guerin (saxophones), Simon Moullier (vibraphone), plus vocalist April May Webb and dancer
Christiana Hunte.

The series celebrates the legendary Max Roach in his centennial year by performing his Freedom Now Suite, one of the seminal works of jazz as protest, first released in 1961 by Roach in collaboration with Abbey Lincoln and lyricist Oscar Brown, Jr. Invoking both the historic pains and hopeful potentiality of the Black experience, Roach created a striking avant garde, vocal-instrumental suite commemorating the centennial of the Emancipation Proclamation and which acted as an urgent call for freedom during the civil rights era, which remains poignant as ever today.

Tickets: In-Person $35+. Livestream $15 (Fri only). For more information and to make reservations, please visit SMOKEjazz.com.
