Five major acts are among the entertainment scheduled for March at Pangea, New York’s downtown supper club. They are:
Commemorating the 40th anniversary of Marianne Faithfull’s “Broken English,” Tammy Faye Starlite, faithful to the source, runs through the now classic album song for song. Her month-long run at Pangea, marking the 1979 anniversary of the album’s release, is endorsed by Faithfull herself. Thursdays, March 7, 14, 21, 28, all at 7:00 pm. Cover is $25.
The camp provocateur Zachary Clause reprises his “Hey Girl!” a musical paean to women, especially the ones who don’t suffer fools gladly, who kick up the dirt in front of them, and who basically tear down the patriarchy one brick at a time! This funny show plays on Saturday, March 30 at 9:30 pm. Cover $25
“Conversations with Claywoman” is back, presented by Kevin Malony’s TWEED Theaterworks’ “Sundays at Seven” performance series. Michael Cavadias portrays a 500 million-year-old bag lady from another galaxy with a super-fondness for planet earth. This creation submits to interviews by celebrity guests who ask about where she is from and why she has been visiting earth for so long. This time the interlocutor is John Cameron Mitchell who does the probing in this in-character improv. Sunday, March 17 at 7:00 pm. Cover is $25.
Vocalist Raven O matches wits with Frank Sinatra in “Raven O Sinatra!!! My Way.” The Berlin-based, Hawaii-born and raised artist, is accompanied by bassist Ben Allison. Mondays, March 18 & April 15, both at 7:00 pm. Cover is $25
The Chicago-based jazz singer Tammy McCann continues her run of “An Evening with Tammy McCann,” in which she celebrates the masters from Ellington to Wonder. In regular visits to New York in the last year and a half, McCann has probed standard repertoire and newer pop classics to uncover the qualities that make American songwriting so iconic and recognizable across cultures and generations around the world and over time. This innovative vocal project previews her upcoming CD recording called “The New Standard.” Fridays, March 8, April 12 and May 10, all at 7:00 pm. Cover is $25.
