Known for his witty musical comedy, Sidney Myer delivers numbers that are funny, preposterous, touching, sometimes understated and even heartbreaking, but always completely unique. He is appearing in the Mabel Mercer Foundation Live at Lynn series of entertainments at Amarnick-Goldstein Concert Hall, Lynn University (Boca Raton, Florida), on January 17 at 7:30 PM. Myer has been called by Stephen Holden in The New York Times, “an engagingly mischievous dispenser of musical comedy repartee,” and additionally was cited by Holden, who wrote, “the evening’s high point was a deadpan rendition of a comic obscurity by Sidney Myer, a beloved latter-day vaudevillian.”
In addition to being a cabaret performer, Myer has been a booking manager, most recently at Don’t Tell Mama, but also at Rose’s Turn and Panache. He has presented artists that have gone on to careers on Broadway, television and motion pictures. In 2009, he was featured in the Times under the headline ”Saviors of the American Songbook.” Myer has performed off-Broadway, at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, as a regular on “The Joey Reynolds Show” and in many clubs in New York as well as San Francisco, Philadelphia, Chicago, the Hamptons, Palm Springs and London. He is the recipient of MAC, Bistro and Mabel Mercer Foundation’s Cabaret Classic and Paula Laurence Awards.
Live at Lynn presents intimate evenings of song and story by leading cabaret artists. Jan McArt is the founder and producer of all Live at Lynn events, which includes the Mabel Mercer Foundation’s Cabaret series, now in its fourth year.
