Celebrate art, culture and history at Woodlawn this summer with an assortment of public programs of concerts, lectures, and tours. First up is a tribute to jazz greats on Thursday, May 29 at 1 PM, with a free concert by the Susan E. Wagner High School Jazz Band—free with registration, in Woodlawn’s Jazz Corner.
On Sunday, June 1 at 2:00 PM, El Maestro Johnny Pacheco: The Man and His Music honors the Dominican musician, arranger, composer, bandleader,and record producer who established himself as a salsa legend in New York and around the world. The lecture will feature Mrs. Maria Elena Pacheco, the wife of Johnny Pacheco, and Herman Rodriguez-Bajandas, President of Fonico, LLC. The conversation will be moderated by Hon. Jeanette Ruiz (ret.), friend of the Pacheco family.
A Trolley Tour celebrating LGBTQ Pride is scheduled for Saturday, June 21 at 12:30 PM in conjunction with the NYC LGBT Historic Sites Project, which also places rainbow flags at the Woodlawn Cemetery graves of vaudeville stars, suffragists, Harlem Renaissance figures, artists, writers and other LGBT individuals who are buried at the cemetery. The tour will be led by the founders and directors of the NYC LGBT Historic Sites Project.
