Dubbed “The Crown Prince of New York Cabaret,” veteran performer, Steve Ross, dons his beret for An American in Paris, a musical trip to the “City of Light” at Birdland Jazz Club on Monday, October 1st at 7 PM. Ross will transform Autumn in New York to April in Paris with songs from American and Continental composers.
In this new concert, the long-time Francophile celebrates songs by American writers including Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, Yip Harburg, Oscar Hammerstein II, Jerome Kern, Jerry Herman and Irving Berlin. Songs included will be “April in Paris,” “Harlem on Her Mind,” “The Last Time I Saw Paris,” “Can-Can,” and “I Love Paris.” Also included will be songs by French and Parisian-based writers such as Charles Trenet and Jacques Brel, including “La Mer” and “Jackie.” Included will be a special Paris in Hollywood section featuring songs from “Gigi,” and a pianistic tribute to the melodies made famous by the legendary Edith Piaf.
