South African Vocalist Vuyo Sotashe and Pianist Chris Pattishall Appear at Joe’s Pub on Friday, March 20

South African vocalist Vuyo Sotashe and American pianist-composer Chris Pattishall come together at Joe’s Pub on Friday, March 20 at 7 PM to celebrate the release of their EP, Invocation. 

Both artists have contributed to a wide range of projects spanning jazz, gospel, theater, and film and have created together for many years in various configurations and international tours, Sotashe and Pattishall started regularly performing as a duo in 2020. The program will range from the American masters of Duke Ellington and Nina Simone to South African Xhosa hymns and Stevie Wonder. Invocation showcases their emotional range through expansive soundscapes.

Since moving to the United States as a Fulbright Scholar, Sotashe has performed with celebrated jazz legends including Wynton Marsalis, Dee Dee Bridgewater, George Benson, Al Jarreau and Winard Harper; appeared at Montreux Jazz Festival, Newport Jazz Festival, and othhers; and made his Off-Broadway debut in The Public Theater’s Black Light. Pattishall’s is a featured performer on a wide range of recordings, from the GRAMMY-nominated debut album of Jamison Ross to the film scores of Knives Out, Nightmare Alley, and Everything Everywhere All At Once. Pattishall co-composed the score to the Emmy-winning documentary, Going To Mars: The Nikki Giovanni Project, with Samora Pinderhughes.

Tickets are $30 (inclusive of advance phone/web service fee; door price). There is a 2 drink or 1 food item minimum, per person, during every show at Joe’s Pub.
