Songbook Sundays Celebrates Songwriter Jimmy Van Heusen on August 3 at Dizzy’s Club

Songbook Sundays celebrates songwriter Jimmy Van Heusen on August 3 at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club, with sets at 5 PM  and 7:30 PM. Host Deborah Grace Winer will welcome jazz and cabaret vocal favorites Christine Andreas, Gabrielle Stravelli, David Marino and Billy Stritch (who also serves as pianist-musiic director) to the stage. The all-star band features drummer  Mark McLean, bassist Caylen Bryant and alto saxophonist Jarien Jaminila.

Van Heusen is the hit songwriter who made Sinatra swing and put the croon in Crosby. This edition of the series features tunes from “Swingin’ on a Star, ” “Call Me Irresponsible,” “Darn That Dream,” “Here’s That Rainy Day” to “Come Fly With Me” and more.

Songbook Sundays is in its third year, with previous tributes to Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, Irving Berlin, Rodgers and Hart, Lerner and Loewe, Fats Waller, Jerome Kern, Harold Arlen, Cy Coleman, Frank Loesser, Rodgers and Hammerstein and Jule Styne.  The series will continue with a celebration of Leonard Bernstein on October 5.

Tickets for Songbook Sundays are $50/45, with student tickets available at $25.  There is a $21 food/drink minimum. Purchase at Jazz.org/dizzys.
