After a ten-year absence from New York CIty, MAC Award nominee Jasper Kump makes his Green Room 42 debut on Thursday, September 25 at 7 PM with The Best Is Yet to Come, a collection of jazz standards about hope, life and love, with the Russ Kasoff Quartet. In addition to Kasoff on piano, the band includes David Finck (bass), Steve Singer (drums/percussion) and Kurt Bacher (woodwinds).
Kump as also celebrating his latest album release of the same name, paying tribute to his vocal idols including Mel Torme, Shirley Horn, Sarah Vaughn, Donny Hathaway and many more. Kump will also sing favorites from his four previous albums (Right Here, Right Now, Starfish + Coffee, Sunday In New York and Real).
Kump entered the New York jazz/cabaret scene in 2004 with performances at The Player’s Club, The Duplex and Helen’s, garnering a MAC Award nomination for Best New York Debut – Male. He’s been singing and writing songs since the age of 11 and has performed throughout the United States and Europe. He studied, performed and competed in vocal jazz in college and has sung with numerous vocal groups over the years, most recently the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles. Kump left NYC and returned to Southern California where he spent several years earning a graduate degree from the University of Southern California and licensure as a clinical social worker and therapist. His daytime passion is leading a team of social workers supporting patients with high risk/complex health needs as part of UCLA Health. He also sees clients in private practice specializing in trauma and addiction.
