Score a Big A+ Success for the American Popular Song Society Tribute to Maltby & Shire

By Maryann Lopinto***The Cutting Room was packed for the American Popular Song Society‘s 3rd annual benefit/gala in which the award-winning songwriting team of Richard Maltby, Jr. and David Shire received the Lifetime Achievement Award. After a cocktail reception, performances by a host of Broadway talent honored the pair. Michael Lavine was host and music director. Orchestrator/co-music director was Deniz Cordell. Also on stage musically were Michael O’Brien-bass, Daniel Glass- drums, Sean Harkness-guitar, Debbie Sepe- cello and Danny Bacher- soprano and tenor saxophones. The production team was comprised of APSS president Linda Amiel Burns and APSS Board members Marilyn Lester (who also stage managed the event), Glen Charlow and Andrew Poretz.
