Grammy Award-winning producer Ryan Truesdell and the Gil Evans Project celebrate their forthcoming album, Shades of Sound, Vol. 2, at Birdland Jazz Club from Tuesday, May 13 – Saturday, May 17.
In honor of Evans’ 113th birthday on May 13, the group will offer selections from the new album, as well as other rarely performed works from Evan’s catalog, including music from the ground-breaking album, Out of the Cool, and music for vocal quartet and big band, heard here for the first time in nearly 80 years. As per the recording, the concert features four well-known Evans arrangements. The music includes Evans’ original “Buster’s Last Stand,” “It’s The Sentimental Thing to Do,” “I Had Someone Else Before I Had You” and “Laughing At Life”among others.
