“Puerto Vallarta is fine. We will rebuild our shattered stores and help our neighbors who no longer have a workplace to go to. If you are reconsidering your vacation in this city, in light of yesterday, please come anyway; we need you now more than ever. With love, From Here.” (Marcia Blondin, NLE Vallarta correspondent)
By Scott Barbarino***As readers of NiteLife Exchange know, we have a section of the publication devoted to Puerto Vallarta, covering a legendary, longtime arts scene there, where so many of our NYC friends perform and live during the Season. PV has traditionally been a safe place to live and visit, and it remains so.
But because of an internecine war between cartels, targeted violence erupted, which is now calming down. The reason: a joint Mexican-US operation took out Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes, the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) on Sunday, February 22, triggering an immediate wave of retaliation across the state. The Mexican National Guard is working to restore normalcy.
The lesson: seek the real story. Fact check. Make sure what you see on social media is real, not fake. Understand the situation and lend positive support. Like the Mafia of old, these are turf wars within the cartels. They too rely on tourism; they don’t want to mess with that.
Team NLE is proud to support Puerto Vallarta—a beautiful world-renowned resort city known for its delightful traditional Mexican culture, support of the arts, sand beaches and vibrant LGBTQ+ friendly atmosphere.
