Pianist Terry Waldo‘s Gotham City Band begins a residency at The Black Door (127 W. 26th Street, between 6th and 7th Ave.) every Monday night from 11 pm to 2 am. Waldo’s band features Mike Davis – trumpet, Ricky Alexander – clarinet, Jim Fryer – trombone, Jay Lepley – drums and Nick Russo – banjo.
Waldo, the protege of the legendary Eubie Blake, has devoted years to keeping ragtime and 1920s traditional jazz alive. His Gotham City Band is an all-star assemblage of New York’s premiere trad jazz musicians. The band has recently performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center and The National Gallery of Art, and will appear next month at the Berne Jazz Festival in Switzerland.
