This William Paterson University Jazz Room at Home Series ends with a special Mother’s Day concert featuring Grammy-winning pianist and WP Jazz Studies Director, Bill Charlap, and tenor saxophonist Houston Person, on Sunday, May 9 at 4:00 PM ET. The concert was recorded live at the WP University Shea Center.
Sittin’ In meet-the-artist interview with Person and Charlap is free and open to the public one hour prior to the concert (3:00 PM) and available for viewing anytime thereafter on the WP Presents! YouTube channel.
Person’s long recording career includes dozens of solo albums, and collaborations and features with saxophonist Gene Ammons and guitarist Grant Green. His many recordings with longtime partner, singer Etta Jones, and bassist Ron Carter are among his best-known music.
Charlap’s trio for over 20 years is considered to be among the finest ensembles in jazz. He recently collaborated on an award-winning CD with vocalists Tony Bennett and Diana Krall, and he has led the 92nd Street Y’s Jazz in July series for many years.
