Jazz singer, Perez, described by jazz writer and historian Stanley Crouch as “the real thing,” makes her debut at 55 Bar, 55 Christopher St, New York, on Sunday, July 29th from 3 to 5 PM. Joining her will be Phil Robson on guitar and Jed Levy on tenor sax and flute.
Originally trained as an artist, Perez let the visual world behind to focus on jazz vocals . She moved to Europe and made a conscious decision to focus on a verbal form of communication, studying with the likes of Curtis Clark, Anita Wardell and Jan Ponsford. Perez became a regular figure at Amsterdam’s Bimhuis. She ran a weekly session there and appeared at festivals on stages across Europe. After a ten-year stay in Europe, Perez returned to New York and produced two sessions entitled “Seventh Avenue South” and “Sunday Sketches,” on Timeless Records, a Dutch label. Each recording has standards as well as original tunes. Her third session, “It’s Happenin’” was released on the American ZOHO label. Visit Perez online t http://www.hipchickalert.com
