Jazz singer Paul Jost celebrates the release his new album Simple Life at a CD Party on Sunday, March 31 from 6 to 9 PM at 55 Bar, located at 55 Christopher Street in New York City—the home of his New York residency for over three years. Jost performs with his quartet of Jim Ridl, piano; Dean Johnson, bass; and Tim Horner, drums. Special guest is vibraphonist Joe Locke on four songs.
The songs included on Simple Life not only look back, paying tribute to tradition, they also look forward reaching outside the traditional boundaries of the jazz genre. Numbers include standards such as “Give Me the Simple Life,” “Caravan” and “The Folks Who Live on the Hill,” as well as more contemporary material, including two Lennon and McCartney classics. Jost’s instrumental approach is shown on Sonny Rollins “No Moe” as he scats his way through this bop tune based on rhythm changes. Jost adds two original compositions to the mix with the waltz “Bela Tristeza” and “Livin’ in the Wrong Time.”
