Grammy-nominated JC Hopkins performs at The Iridium for one night only—Tuesday, August 14th at 8:00 PM. JC is joined on stage with vocalist and Starduster Jennifer Barry, and special guest, the young trumpet player/vocalist, Nico Sarbanes.
JC Hopkins, a pianist, leader, composer and record producer, has been a staple in New York City’s jazz scene for almost two decades—with a close association to Minton’s Harlem—with a reputation that extends worldwide. His “JC Hopkins Biggish Band” has performed with a wide range of vocalists, including Norah Jones, Tony Bennett, Jon Hendricks, Andy Bey, Johnny O’Neal, Elvis Costello, Mose Allison, Madeleine Peyroux, Jazzmeia Horn and Martha Wainwright.
Hopkins’ music encompasses several diverse genres, including straight ahead jazz, swing and bebop, with a repertoire that staunchly includes the standards of the Great American Songbook. Hopkins has been described as a modern day Hoagy Carmichael; singers such as Norah Jones, Willie Nelson and Victoria Williams have covered his original songs. He has twice been nominated for a Grammy Award, once for his song “Dreams Come True”, recorded by Willie Nelson and Norah Jones, and for his production of John Lithgow’s children’s album of Tin Pan Alley songs, The Sunny Side of the Street. Hopkins has also produced recording sessions for luminaries of the contemporary music scene, including Norah Jones, Anita O’Day, Martha Wainwright, Victoria Williams and Queen Esther. Additional collaborations include numerous production endeavors with Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Teddy Thompson, Van Dyke Parks, Jolie Holland and Petra Haden, to name a few.
