French-Canadian chanteuse Myriam Phiro as she celebrates her new album, Becoming Marlene Dietrich, a tribute to the trailblazing movie, music and style icon, on Friday, October 6 at 7 PM At Chelsea Table + Stage. she will be accompanied by her longtime trio featuring Hyuna Park on piano and Elias Bailey on bass, in addition to special guests.
Phiro is making her debut at the venue after selling out Joe’s Pub and Birdland with her evening honoring Edith Piaf, Phiro chante Piaf. Becoming Marlene Dietrich tells Dietrich’s fascinating story through her greatest hits. Phiro, known for her renditions of Edith Piaf’s songbook, combines elements of Piaf and Dietrich, exploring the rumored scandalous relationship between the two. She will convey some of the most dramatic moments of Dietrich’s life and legacy, while unveiling some of the diva’s mysteries.
Phiro is an internationally recognized singer and bandleader who is lead vocalist and founder of Jolie Môme, Nuage Rhythm and The Phirocious Swing Orchestra; she has collaborated and shared the stage with renowned artists such as Harry Connick Jr., Janis Siegel, Nicki Parrott, Marilyn Maye, Frank Vignola, and Vince Giordano. Her performances feature jazz and French standards as well as the famous tunes of the Great American Songbook.
