At fifty, Melinda Hughes has finally tied the knot for the first time, and despite being in a bubble of love, she’s still got a satirical take on life, politics and romance. Her broad repertoire of musical styles encompasses a myriad of topics, ranging from internet trolling and Cancel Culture to failed romances with Argentinian truckers and a disdain for British stately homes.
Hughes has performed internationally as an opera singer and soloist with the Andre Rieu Strauss Orchestra. As a satirical cabaret singer and comedian, she has performaned at Crazy Coqs, The Pheasantry, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Cadogan Hall in London, The Al Bustan Festival Beirut, Hay Festival & Bath Comedy Festival in the UK, Lerici Festival Italy, Holders Festival Barbados as well as the Metropolitan Room New York. She’s also had many successful seasons at The Edinburgh Fringe. She was runner up in the 2019 Funny Women Awards with her show Off The Scale.
Hughes is also a Weimar specialist with two albums to her name, Smoke & Noise and Weimar & Back. This led her to work with the late Barry Humphries on BBC Radio 4 programme about Weimar Cabaret. Her passion for this era led her to write and produce MARGO: Half Woman, Half Beast as a collaboration with JW3 in London, culminating in a run at The Assembly Rooms in the 2018 Edinburgh Fringe, garnering many five-star reviews.
