ScoBar Entertainment is proud to bring Mona’s Hot Four with special guest Tamar Korn to The Iridium for one night only Tuesday August 2nd at 8:00PM. Mona’s Hot Four are, Dennis Lichtman on clarinet, Gordon Webster on piano, Nick Russo on guitar / tenor banjo and Rob Adkins on upright bass.
For the past nine years, Mona’s Hot Four has hosted the liveliest weekly jam session of 1920’s and 1930’s jazz in New York City. Every Tuesday, from 11pm until the wee hours of the morning, dozens of musicians of all ages and scores of spectators cram into Mona’s (a pub in the East Village) to take part in a unique and extraordinary scene. It’s the central meeting point for pros having fun after their evening gigs, new musicians in town, touring acts passing through, jazz veterans, college music students, and a veritable breakfast club of onlookers. In 2011, as the session began to reach its current long-running peak, The Wall Street Journal dubbed it “Ground Zero for an emerging late night scene of young swing and traditional jazz players…”
Tamar Korn Iridium NYC Mona’s Hot Four, led by clarinetist Dennis Lichtman, has appeared in countless concerts outside of Mona’s, including two appearances on Good Morning America and a co-hosting role in the Sidney Bechet Society’s “Jam Session of the Millenium” at Symphony Space in 2013 and 2014. The other three members of the band are Gordon Webster (piano), Jared Engel (bass), and Nick Russo (guitar and tenor banjo). All are bandleaders of their own projects outside of Mona’s – The Gordon Webster Band, Baby Soda Jazz Band (Engel), The Hot Jazz Jumpers (Russo), and The Brain Cloud (Lichtman). But when the quartet takes the bandstand together at Mona’s to kick off another Tuesday night session, their collective energy is unstoppable, and it’s clear how they came to find themselves at the epicenter of a major resurgence of early-era jazz among younger musicians.
In 2012, the 2-disc set Tuesdays At Mona’s was released on Triple Treble Music – a DVD featuring the documentary of the same title, produced by Hi Tide Films, and a live CD featuring Mona’s Hot Four plus twenty guest musicians. Both Tuesdays At Mona’s and Live At Mona’s, the band’s first CD, are available at www.monashotfour.com.
