Brooklyn- and Miami-based interdisciplinary artist Migguel Anggelo celebrates Celia Cruz’ 100th birthday at Joe’s Pub on Tuesday, October 14 and Wednesday, October 15, both at 7 PM with Celia Cruz 100: Icons
This joyful, high-energy celebration of the “Queen of Salsa,” in the year and month of her centenary is directed by Adrian Alea and led by musical director-pianist Jaime Lozano. Special cameos include singer-songwriter and producer Mai-Elka Prado Gil, drag artists Pietra Parker and Fonda Koxx, and more.
Musicians also supporting the show are Saúl Cosme: guitars, Joel Mateo: drums; Yahir Montes: bass and backing singers Sara Ornelas, Mayelah Barrera and Adriana Medina Santiago.
Anggelo offers an intimate theatrical exploration of Cruz’ legacy in a show commissioned by Lincoln Center. It’s not about claiming Havana-born Cruz for theater—it’s about discovering the theatrical power that was always there: a woman who conquered male-dominated salsa through pure joy. Along the way, Anggelo explores Latin identity, immigration and resilience through performance
Tickets are $42 (inclusive of advance phone/web service fee; door price). There is a 2 drink or 1 food item minimum, per person.
