Even with the advent of new guidelines for indoor gatherings and performances, Lincoln Center plans to maintain pandemic caution by creating 10 outdoor performance spaces and stages, set to open on Wednesday, April 7, in an effort to revitalize the performing arts industry. Entitled Restart Stages, the program will celebrate the full spectrum of New York City’s artistic talent and create a place for all of the city’s residents and neighbors to enjoy. It launches on World Health Day with a special performance for healthcare workers.
In addition to in-person attendance, performances will also be available via livestream on Lincoln Center and other digital platforms.
Restart Stages will include a concert and cabaret series by Lincoln Center Theater, dance workshops from New York City Ballet, concerts from the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and movie screenings by Film at Lincoln Center.
The planned venues include a stage on Lincoln Center’s Hearst Plaza, spaces for public school graduations, an outdoor reading room—created in partnership with The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts—and a family and kids area with arts activities.
This effort is being developed in partnership with NY State PopsUP, Gov. Cuomo’s initiative which features pop-up performances across the state.
Lincoln Center will also partner on programming with guest curators including Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance, Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute, Harlem Week and the Harlem Arts Alliance, Korean Cultural Center New York and Weeksville Heritage Center.
