Vocalist-actress Klea Blackhurst‘s Everything the Traffic Will Allow: The Songs and Sass of Ethel Merman plays on Sunday, November 16 at Celsea Table + Stage at 7 PM. The show is the final event of the second annual edition of “The Box Set,” the season-long retrospective of the theater and concert artist’s acclaimed shows. She’ll be ccompanied by music director Michael Rice and the Pocket Change Trio,
Everything the Traffic Will Allow is Blackhurst’s award-winning tribute to the songs made famous by the quintessential stage personality, Ethel Merman. Rather than a Merman imitation, Klea offers a paean to the great Broadway legend that serves as a potent and happy reminder of Merman’s sheer, undeniable importance to both the history of twentieth century entertainment and the iconic composers such as Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin and Jerry Herman, who wrote songs just for her.
Blackhurst brings bright new interpretations of Merman’s signature songs such as “I Got Rhythm,” “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” and “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” as well as rarely performed obscurities, including “Just a Moment Ago,” “I’ve Still Got My Health,” and “World Take Me Back.”
Tickets to the show are $20-$40, in addition to a service charge and a $25 food and beverage minimum per person.
CHELSEA TABLE + STAGE is located at 152 West 26th Street, NYC
