Grammy-winning baritone John Brancy and NPR’s “From The Top” host and pianist Peter Dugan present a dynamic new program in their Café Carlyle debut on Thursday, April 20 and Friday, April 21 at 8:45 PM.
These versatile performers have been entertaining audiences with their innovative approach to the art of song in solo recitals at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall and the Kennedy Center. The pair take audiences on an international journey through songs from Germany, France, and America in a fresh, new take on traditional cabaret. Performing works by Weill, Porter, Brel, Hahn, Rodgers, and others, Brancy and Dugan brings a mix of classical music, jazz,and popular song to the legendary New York City nightclub.
Brancy made his role debut as Escamillo in Carmen with MasterVoices at Jazz at Lincoln Center in a newly translated English version by Broadway legend Sheldon Harnick directed by Sammi Cannold; he took on the role of Franz Wolff-Metternich in the world premiere of La Beauté du monde, by playwright Michel Marc Bouchard and composer Julien Bilodeau, at Opéra de Montréal; and performed as a soloist with Theater Erfurt in conductor/composer Alexander Prior’s arrangement of Schubert’s Winterreise for orchestra. His concert and recital appearances have taken him to the Royal Concertgebouw, Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and the Kennedy Center.
