Five years on since her last show, Like a Perfumed Woman, singer Joanne Halev is especially thrilled to present Sailing On at Birdland Theater on Tuesday, November 19 at 8:30 PM. She will be joined by musical director-pianist, Alex Rybeck and bassist Ray Kilday, with direction by Sara Louise Lazarus.
Halev will be sharing songs and stories that illuminate life’s little miracles, traveling together from the rocky coast of Maine to The Dairy State, from Manhattan’s Lower East Side to Waldorf Astoria’s Peacock Alley, to Sheridan Square in Greenwich Village and even to Brooklyn—long before it became a haven for hipsters!
Halev promises true tales from her lifeof first loves and rites of passage, whooping cough and waterbeds, fate, friendship, and one fabulous farm boy. And all of these tales will be woven through wonderful music and lyrics by Lerner and Loewe, Carol Hall, Rodgers and Hart, Amanda McBroom, Francesca Blumenthal, Irving Berlin, Stephen Sondheim, Dillie Keane and more.
