Vocalist Jeremy Sussman performs From No Business to Show Business on Sunday, September 28 (4 PM), Thursday, October 9 (7 PM) and Tuesday, October 21 (7 PM) at Don’t Tell Mama. Music director-arranger- pianist is Gregory Toroian, with bassist Skip Ward and drummer David Silliman. Directed by Geoff Stoner
Sussman’s is the story of a man who endures the trappings of a desk-bound attorney so he can fantasize about and then pursue his love of performing. But he’ll still consult. Through lesser-known and quirky novelty songs, as well as the standards of Rodgers and Hammerstein, Irving Berlin, Van Heusen and Burke, Adler and Ross, Cahn and Styne, Harold Rome and others, Sussman, an offbeat performer (usually in a hat), tells the story of how he charmed (mollified?) his parents by earning a law degree while privately pursuing his love of performing and piano-playing on the side. For Sussman, No Business is anything that is not Show Business.
