Jeff Macauley’s Hollywood Party: Movie Songs 1928-1936, Plays Its Final Performance at The Triad on Sunday, June 24

Jeff Macauley’s Hollywood Party: Movie Songs 1928-1936—Pride Edition will play its final performance on Sunday, June 24 at 7:00 PM at The Triad Theater. The show is a perfect after-activity for the Gay Pride Parade; just march up to The Triad and hear the songs from when the movies first learned to sing. At the keyboard will be music director, Tex Arnold.

It’s been 90 years since Al Jolson warned “You ain’t heard nothin’ yet!,” and then burst into song in The Jazz Singer. The Hollywood Party was on! The movie musical made itself up as it went along, giving us timeless tunes and stars amid the taps and two-strip technicolor. McCauley pays tribute to the first musical film stars and thier songs, from Janet Gaynor strumming a zither in 1929’s Sunny Side Up to the sophisticated artistry of Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Jerome Kern and Dorothy Fields in Swing Time, just seven years later. Songs include standards and long-forgotten tunes from songwriters De Sylva, Brown and Henderson, Herman Hupfeld, Herb Nacio Brown, Richard Rodgers, Yip Harburg, Jay Gorney, Lorenz Hart, Richard Whiting and others writing for Jeanette MacDonald, Maurice Chevalier, Claudette Colbert and Bing Crosby at the beginning of their film careers.

Macauley has been singing in clubs from Los Angeles to New York since 1990. He was nominated for 2018, 2017 and 2016 MAC Awards for Male Vocalist and has been nominated for several BroadwayWorld.com cabaret awards for his shows It Was Me: The Lyrics of Norman Gimbel, Mr. Lucky: The Songs of Henry Mancini and Le Grand Tour: The Music of Michel Legrand. In 1998, Jeff received Backstage Magazine’s Bistro Award for Outstanding Theme Show for MWAH! The Dinah Shore Show, which was revived in 2016 in honor of Miss Shore’s centenary.
