James Langton’s New York All-Star Big Band Celebrates Artie Shaw at The Cutting Room on Wednesday, July 2

Leader James Langton’s New York All-Star Big Band is set to celebrate the music of Artie Shaw at The Cutting Room on Wednesday, July 2 at 7 PM.

The timeless swing of Artie Shaw’s legendary 1938-39 orchestra will come back to life as James Langton and company showcase the original arrangements, with featured artists, clarinetist Dan Levinson and vocalist Molly Ryan. Much of this music hasn’t been heard live in New York since Shaw’s own band wowed audiences at the Café Rouge of the Hotel Pennsylvania back in the day. From the bracing brass and reed harmonies to the irresistible rhythms, this event is a rare opportunity to experience swing-era classics in their full, historic glory. You’ll hear “Day In Day Out”, “Sweet Sue”, “At Sundown”, “Man From Mars”, “Zigeuner”, “Shine On Harvest Moon” and “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love” to name but a few.

Led by bandleader James Langton, the New York All-Star Big Band is dedicated to preserving and performing the classic swing repertoire of the 1930s and 1940s, using authentic arrangements and featuring some of the finest jazz talent in the country.
