Hot Summer Nights Concerts at nearby Music Theatre of Connecticut: run from Saturdays July 12 – August 23 at 8 PM.The shows feature multi-award-winning cabaret and Broadway stars and Tony winners and nominees, plus known local talents—all fundraisers for the outreach programs at the theatre.
Here’s the schedule:
July 12 – Sally Mayes & Billy Stritch in AN EVENING WITH SALLY & BILLY
Mayes is a TV/Broadway/cabaret treasure, a Tony-nominated singer who has starred in She Loves Me, Urban Cowboy and Steel Magnolias to name a few. In addition to accompanying the likes of Liza Minelli, Tony Bennett, Linda Eder and others, Stritch is a GRAMMY Award winner and a Tony Award winner for his role in 42nd Street.
August 9 – Frank Mastrone in AN EVENING WITH FRANK
A Connecticut local, Mastrone went from a singer-waiter to Broadway, first appearing in the first tour of Cats, and on Broadway in Phantom of the Opera. Other appearances include Les Miserables, Tapestry, Evita, Mama Mia and more.
August 16 – Craig Rubano in TAKE THE MOMENT
The Broadway veteran—Les Miserable, The Scarlet Pimpernel—is also a multi-award-winning cabaret star who recently returned after years away from the stage . The show is about the choices that we make, directed by cabaret star Jeff Harner and featuring pianist Beth Ertz, music director and bassist Steve Doyle.
August 23 – Sue Matsuki and David Maiocco in THIS BROAD’S (& DAVID’S) WAY
After working together on this show at Act2PV in Mexico, Matsuki and Maiocco (he’s also a Liberace impersonator) join forces to perform the show, which lovingly delves into Matsuki’s “guilty pleasure” of Broaddway. Cate Valcic is a special guest.
